Australia is unit of Asia-Pacific’s largest e-commerce markets, Worldpay said, with online sales accounting for AU$42 billion (£24.8 billion) in 2015, and the state’s consumers leading the globe in terms of e-wallet adoption, Worldpay said.

“Consequently, Worldpay is ideally placed to aid merchants across Australia capitalise on opportunities presented by a market with lofty internet penetration and a technologically-savvy consumer base,” it said.

ASOS, Expedia, Cathay Pacific Airlines and Digital globe International are already using Worldpay for payment processing in Australia, the company said.

Worldpay processed 13.1 billion transactions in 2015 with transaction price of £401.9 billion, it said. The platform expanded into Canada in February when it won a deal to provide payment services to e-book company Rakuten Kobo.

Worldpay has recently faced technical problems  with payment settlements being delayed.
